Day 3 – Does it get easier?

16km today. The longest one out of the 4 day trek. We have a long day ahead. The usual 4am start we were not eased in. Straight into a very steep incline. We are in absolute awe of the porters, practically running past us. We made it to the summit and was greeted by a deer — apparently this is good luck!

The weather held out for us as we continued through the most beautiful lil rainforest and ‘cloud forest’ which completely covered us in, you guessed it, clouds. The saying ‘get your head out of the clouds’ finally made a lot of sense.

We had lunch in the most surreal spot, right at the top of a mountain. The chef out did himself as usual and we were fully fuelled for the next KMs in our camping spot. I believe this is the only time it rained during our whole trek, which for rainy season is a miracle (or a lucky deer).

We had history time on day 3, and learnt about how the Incans communicated with each other through smoke signals.

We finally made it (pretty exhausted) to our last ever camping spot. The chef presented us with a cake + we shared our gratitude. This day was full with the most beautiful views, let’s pray that the pinnacle of our trek isn’t covered in a cloud…
